Named for its Frankish origins, the Francisca was utilized by the Vikings for both close-quarters combat and as a throwing weapon. Its graceful lines have become legendary, and the upswept point and downturned edge were effective at penetrating chain mail. Crafted by Paul Chen at the Hanwei factory, our Francisca axe features a steel head with a fire-gray or antiqued finish and a swelled-end hardwood shaft to securely retain the head. The shaft is also backswept, just like the originals, which provides greater sticking capability when thrown.
