CAS Hanwei River Witham Sword

The River Witham sword was dredged from the River Witham near the town of Lincoln during work conducted in 1788. Although it may be a remnant of the Battle of Lincoln in 1141, the sword is more likely to have been made between 1250-1300 CE. The blade bears an inscription that reads: +ndxoxchmdrchdxorvi+. Paul Chen swords are crafted using similar techniques to those used centuries ago, with blades now forged from high-carbon spring steel. The blade finish eschews a polished appearance, instead closely replicating the work of medieval swordsmiths. The grips, unless otherwise noted, are made of leather-covered hardwood, while the fittings are either steel or solid brass. These swords are designed to appeal to re-enactors seeking a sword that closely resembles the originals.
