Hanwei Taotie Jian Longsword

The legend of the taotie has its roots deeply ingrained in Chinese culture, dating back to the Neolithic age. It first found expression during the Shang and Zhou dynasties as a monster mask on bronze ritual vessels. Even today, this legend is manifested in modern cutlery on eating utensils and plates.

The Taotie, also known as the gluttonous monster, is said to consume voraciously, and according to myth, it eventually began to consume human flesh. As punishment for his overindulgence, the gods took away its body and jaw, leaving it with nothing but a head and a gaping mouth, a warning to others. The artisans of Dragon King took inspiration from this ancient warning and created the Taotie Jian.

The classic zoomorphic head motif is embossed on the pommel and the guard of the 51 1/2" long sword. The 37 3/4" blade with a 7" ricasso (3/8" thick at the base) adds strength for powerful thrusts and blocks. The 12 1/2" wood core handle is wrapped in thin cord, allowing for an easy grip. The sword also comes with a black lacquered scabbard with matching accents to secure this beast.
