CAS Hanwei Practical Rapier 37-Inch

The schlaeger rapiers feature a popular swept hilt, which has been modified by hanwei to accommodate their schlaeger blades in lengths of 37" (SH1099) and 43" (SH1098). Compared to the traditional parallel-sided schlaegers, these tapered blades offer superior balance, resulting in a faster sword. Paul Chen's renaissance-style rapiers can be traced back to early 17th century Europe, where rapier swordplay was an essential part of a gentleman's education and often used to settle gentlemanly disputes. While the blades typically originated from sword making centers such as Toledo or Solingen, differences in styling and hilt materials emerged due to the local manufacture of hilts all over Europe. The main gauche, or left hand dagger, was commonly used with the rapier, adding another dimension to both offense and defense. The "schools of fence" that were prevalent in Europe during this period taught the use of these two weapons in combination. The main gauche would often be designed to match the rapier in style, while also integrating features that maximized its effectiveness. Replacement blades, both live and blunt (for sparring), are available for most of the rapiers and main gauche. These high-quality blades are made of high-carbon steel and feature a button-tipped design for superior balance and effectiveness.
