The Viking's creative mix of art and War is demonstrated by our decorated spearheads, which often feature intricate patterns created using the "niello" process, a method that involves an alloy of several metals, notably silver, mixed with sulfur and rubbed into an incised pattern before being fired. This results in an effect where the rubbed alloy remains black while the rest of the surface is polished to a bright finish. We have adapted this process at hanwei to provide a lustrous, permanent niello-like effect on our spearheads. Each spearhead has a shaft diameter of 1", and only spearheads are supplied.

The Nordic warrior would frequently carry several light throwing spears into combat, designed with narrow, sharply pointed heads to Pierce mail. These spears allowed the warrior to throw them as the distance closed, leaving him free to use his sword or axe in hand-to-hand fighting. The total head length of our Viking throwing spearhead is 16 1/4". Please note that this spear head is cast hollow and therefore not suitable for functional use.
